One of the aspects of social email marketing is the integration sharing possibilities via social media in email marketing campaigns.
This is of course not the most complex thing to do, and it’s also just one tiny aspect of social email marketing that is really much more than just that.
Several surveys found that the most linked to social marketing outlet in email marketing campaigns is Twitter and it is since quite some time.
One of the organisations that looks at the number of email marketing campaigns that contain links to social media is Email Data Source.
Last summer the company found that there was a dramatic increase in the number of email marketing campaigns that contain links to Facebook and Twitter and that, starting in 2009 twitter.com and facebook.com, have become the two most prominent linked to sites in all of email marketing.
However, the main finding was that Twitter officially passed Facebook and became the most linked to social media outlet since March and that since then the gap between Twitter and Facebook kept growing.
For those who think that social email marketing is new (but again, it’s more than just linking to social media): Email Data Source also found that the first email marketing campaign the company tracked with a link to Twitter was in 2007.
Last November Email Data Source launched version 4.0 of its Email Analyst platform to monitor competitive Twitter marketing offers.
It is the first monitoring tool that combines email and social media and that enables marketers to compare the efficiency of both (Twitter and email in this case).
This is done by using social media measurement metrics within the context of reach, frequency, and effectiveness, metrics that marketers understand and enable them to compare apples to apples, as Email Data Source puts it.
