A few more hours and we’re in 2010 (depending on where you live). Time for some quick notes on some expected trends for the 2010 calendar year in terms of email marketing.
But you can’t say email marketing to marketing departments without also mentioning social media marketing programs.
More and more companies are putting marketing dollars into developing social media communities, expanding into a market growing so large it may be the dominant force in online marketing in a matter of years (hello 350 million subscribers on Facebook).
The recent StrongMail “2010 Marketing Trends” survey points to social media and email marketing trends in terms of cash spent.
The majority, 89%, said they will be either spending the same or more in 2010 on marketing, with half saying they would put even more money into marketing.
Here are a few more stats
-69% will increase email marketing spending
-59% will be spending more on social media programs
-69% will be integrating social media and email marketing: social email marketing in other words
That’s not unexpected, especially the news on social media marketing. But still, it gives email marketing the edge in terms of overall commitment and dollars spent.
A recent article on BTOBOnline.com pointed out these statistics, and referred to StrongMail’s marketing manager Kristin Hersant.
Hersant believes the viral aspect on the web will become even more defined for businesses looking to develop brands. Hersant also noted using videos in email may be a growing trend for email marketing programs.
With new technologies being developed and more viral strategies incorporated, the StrongMail survey portends things to come.
While social media may be the buzz word, new technologies in email marketing will continue to make it a contender for continued marketing dollars. Both social media marketing and email marketing programs are, according to these studies, going to grow even more in 2010.
2010 is just a few hours away. Enjoy the party tonight, wherever you live and whatever you do. Hope to meet you here, on Twitter, on your blog, in your social emails or on your favourite social networks next year 😉
