More than 67 million followers on Twitter in four days
The #AmericaWants twitter campaign ran from April 13 to April 16. People were encouraged to tweet “#AmericaWants (name of charity) to get a full-page ad in USA TODAY, with the recipient of the most tweets receiving the final award.
More than 60,000 tweets in support of more than 500 organizations were posted in four days, reaching more than 67 million followers on Twitter.
Dave Hunke, president and publisher of USA Today said in a press release: “The overwhelming response to our first Twitter campaign has been outstanding, and we salute To Write Love on Her Arms for their tremendous effort. We were delighted by the number of charities who saw the value in a full-page ad in our newspaper, and what it could do for their organization.”
He continued; “So much of our mission is communicating. We often say that To Write Love on Her Arms is an attempt to invite people into an honest conversation. We’re talking about issues that millions live with but few talk about, and we’re trying to do that in ways that move people, ways that point people to hope and help and let them know they’re not alone”.
A nice initiative from USA Today that not only gets a positive brand perception but also a proof that social media can really engage people.
But for once, let’s skip the marketing and think about all those people out there that have a tough time.
