Just read that the folks at HootSuite have added some new features to their Twitter client (or should I say Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn/Ping.fm client?).
What’s up? First of all HootSuite added support for WordPress blogs which enables bloggers, using WordPress of course, to schedule and cross-post content to their WordPress accounts (as HootSuite already enables you to with all the above mentioned social media and, yes, blogs are social media).
TypePad bloggers, including me, will have to be patient or not use HootSuite at all. After all, TypepAd enables to post to most social networks, right?
Back to HootSuite: on the blog the people behind the Twitter client say “WordPress is the first blog platform officially supported by HootSuite”. You know what that means.
For now, the support of WordPress is only for blogs that are hosted on WordPress.com but HootSuite promises support for self-hosted WordPress blogs any time soon.
Secondly, HootSuite is also offering topic trending. It did before but only for users of HootSuite’s iPhone app, now it does for web users too.
Previewing URLs
Finally, HootSuite “added the ability to preview URLs, so you can easily see what media is being shared”.
You can preview your URLs, as well as most popular shortened URLs, including image-sharing sites like twitpic and ow.ly, YouTube videos, and more, HootSuite says.
“The media preview feature has the added benefit of making your web surfing experience safer, by allowing you to see what you’re clicking on before you do so” (see image below, from the HootSuite blog post). Did anyone test it yet?
Of course, HootSuite is not the only one offering this feature.
